I’m looking at it now, may not be quick and easy.
Just tested now home, i can see all addons
I can confirm that I’ve installed TVheadend, but then it got tricky, as the Slice interface doesn’t have the correct menu items, presumably they were removed for economy, I couldn’t find Confluence as a standard option, so had to try Amber, that gave me the appropriate menu items, but I can’t yet log into TVheadend and it keeps saying it’s disconnected. Then I had to go MTBing, so I’ll continue looking into it tomorrow. Thanks for getting it going this far.
I’ve had to give up defeated for the moment. I can’t log into TVheadend to set it up, (http://192.168.0.8:9981) I know this is the correct address, because I get the Kodi web interface if I only use 192.168.0.8 I’m also getting a constant message on screen saying “TVheadend HTSP client - Connection failed”
From the log file I get this

It continues repeating the last few lines indefinitely.
So it looks to me like TVheadend is enabled, but is failing at initialisation
"Client returned bad status (1) from Create and is not usable"
So I’m now stuck, I’ll see if I can find out anything else from t’interweb.
Thats the client right, are you running the Ttvheadend server somewhere, think you can set the IP address with in the settings for the client
Sorry for the slow response
As far as I understand it, openelec should already have the necessary TVheadend stuff all built in, all you need to do is activate it.
But it doesn’t seem to be present in the Slice build of openelec. According to this link
There should be a settings path Settings -> Add-ons -> Services -> tvheadend
The Services option isn’t present, so I’m assuming it’ll not work.
The front end is taken care of by Kodi, with the help of ‘Tvheadend HTSP Client’ which is present under the add-on manager, under OpenElec mediacenter os add-ons->PVR Clients->Tvheadend HTSP Client.
I’m trying to run it all on the Slice, so the USB TV tuner is plugged in to one of the Slices USB ports, I didn’t want to have to have another computer somewhere near an aerial socket, churning away as well, though presumably it would be possible to use a Pi for that as well. Maybe that’s what I should try next.
There are 2 parts to using tvheadend, server and client, the server addon is installed from the unofficial addons repo, where as the client is installed from the normal repo, so at the moment you have only yet client running and it’s unable to connect to the server, install the add on from the unofficial repo and the you should be able to get to the tvheadend web gui
Ok I found the unofficial add on repro install and installed it, I have now been able to install and get working the TVheadend backend (server), thanks for your pointers. I can log into it and have scanned for and found all the TV channels from my local transmitter, I can even view those TV channels from the PC with which I am logged into TVheadend, so all working well. Now I can’t get the TVheadend client side, which is in Kodi under PVR Clients to connect to it, it is enabled and it did very briefly connect once, but there were no TV channels shown, only radio, but I could listen to them through Slice. Since then I’m unable to get anything, I’m not even getting the “TV” and “RADIO” menu options on the main screen, though as I said I did manage it once. I’ll continue trying to get the two halves talking.
Thanks for all your help. Kevin.
Try resetting the PVR database, i have seen this getting messed up before when 1st enabled. if still getting issue open a new thread and i will help you there
You’re a genius Mike, that’s fixed it, many thanks.
I now have live TV, with HD (where broadcast), I’ve also set up the recorder as well, which I’m just testing at the moment, recording the Rugby in HD, while watching a film from my library, which seems like a good test to me, CPU seems to be coping very well, even navigating the menus while this is all going on is reasonably snappy.
I see you’ve added some more recent builds, is there anything you’d like me to test?
Not much has been changing that needs testing at the moment, Kodi 15.2 will be out soon, i think once that’s release we should see OpenELEC 6 and then the new Slice stable should follow that
Once thats done, i will look at doing a build with Kodi 16, which i have tested on my RPI and its very nice
Just like to say a big thanks to Gordon, Paul and the rest of the Ninjas for sorting this out for me
Build that will be up in the next few minutes will contain Kodi 15.2 rc2
Oooo! Naked Slice, there is colour option and a marketing idea I did not see on Kickstarter. “I Want One Of Those” TM.
Thanks for your comments over on the new bloody build thread.
Oh dear, that’s opened the floodgates! I want one too…
I guess it would be relatively simple to build one anyway - is it perspex or glass?? A nice thick-ish glass one would be cool.
Perspex of course, much in the style of the Pibow cases
Thanks Mike, I notice that there are lots of outlets selling perspex sheets on Ebay. Anyone any ideas on what could be used ‘off-the-shelf’ as stand-offs to take screws??
